What is e-Portfolio?
An
electronic portfolio (e-Portfolio) is a dynamic online repository for a
student's learning and reflection documents. An electronic portfolio
(e-Portfolio) can serve as a record of one's professional and personal development,
an illustration of their use of evidence-based experiences, and a place to map
out their plans for continuing their education and training. A powerful
resource for higher learning is a well-designed electronic portfolio platform.
They facilitate the more in-depth learning that we aim to instill in our pupils
and provide realistic assessments of student progress to educational
institutions.
What are some
advantages of an e-Portfolio?
Most
incoming college students cannot comprehend being in charge of their own
education. They think that teachers somehow force students to learn or, in
certain situations, stop them from learning. Assignments, obligatory
coursework, and tests are even viewed by many as roadblocks to be avoided on
the journey to their degree, which is their passport to the future. The idea of
professors transitioning from "sage on the stage" to "guide on
the side" has been discussed for a long time, but e-portfolios are emerging
as a teaching/learning context where this is likely to happen. The practices
associated with e-portfolios, such as creating "authentic"
assignments, utilizing active and engaging pedagogy, requiring students to
reflect on their learning, and requiring self-, peer-, and teacher-formative
assessments on a regular basis, assist in putting professors and students into
a teacher/learner relationship where "guiding" actually works.
Delivering content is less important than guiding and inspiring students as
they work to address issues that are actually important to their fields of
study, careers, or communities. While further study will be done on
e-portfolios specifically, the fact that strong e-portfolio programs employ a
combination of strategies that have already been demonstrated collectively to
be beneficial in promoting student learning offers some optimism. Here are some
advantages for having an ePortfolio.
· In particular, portfolios possess integrative learning potential: the ability to connect experiences and knowledge gained in the academic context with a variety of other contexts, including the workplace and community. e-Portfolios are used as an assessment tool in higher education. e-Portfolios permit tracking of longer episodes of teaching and learning more effectively than single observations do. Well-developed e-Portfolios have the potential to enable students to share their projects, documents, and reflections from coursework spanning their entire program, with clear program-related criteria, in a collaborative virtual environment. e-Portfolio projects can facilitate self-regulation and critical reflection in students.
